The Progressive Movement is a collective group of reform efforts made by the middle-class addressing many of the issues that contributed to the social problems of the 1890s. Their efforts aimed at restoring the economic opportunities and justice that the American life promised. The four main goals of the progressive era were to protect social welfare, promote moral improvement, create economic reform and foster efficiency. There were no set problems or solutions, but every reformer had at least one of these goals in mind. The progressive reforms in areas like labor and voting rights reinforce democratic principles and ideas that still exist today.
