Creating Economic Reform
In 1893 there was an economic panic that caused many Americans to question the capitalist economic system. Some of these Americans were workers who began to accept socialism. Big businesses were given favorable treatment from government officials and politicians, which used the economic power to reduce competition. In the early 20th century, the corrupt side of business and public life was reported by journalists called Muckrakers.
