Robert M. La Folette
La Follette was a Republican U.S. senator in 1906, previously serving three times as governor. He wanted to drive corporations out of politics and treat them as any other person would be treated. His major target was the railroad industry. He taxed railroad property at the same rates as other business property and set up a commission to regulate rates. He also forbade railroads to issue free passes to state officials.
