Working Conditions Improving
Women's presence in the workforce was of recent at the time since they were usually expected to spend their time doing housework. As industries grew, so did the opportunity for work. Women were most often working factory jobs, with about 25% of women who held jobs holding positions in manufacturing, and soon women began to find work in education, retail stores, and in office buildings; however, they still faced horrible conditions and received about half the salary of men while working longer hours. This lead to a reform to improve their work conditions but in order to make change they needed to vote, leading to the promotion of women's suffrage.
