Suffrage
Suffragist leaders tried to convince state legislatures to grant women the right to vote, but were only successful in Wyoming in 1869, and in Utah, Colorado, and Idaho in 1890. They also pursued court cases to test the 14th amendment, challenging the court saying that women were also citizens. They pushed for national constitutional amendment to grant women the right to vote and were continually voted down for 41 years.
